Deputy Service Manager
This position is based at our Merchants House service in Shipley, Bradford.
We are recruiting for a Deputy Service Manager for our Merchants House Service located in Shipley, Bradford.
Northern Healthcare provides mental health recovery services across many regions within the UK. Our services consist of supported living and community outreach services which provide our residents and service users with access to 24-hour support from experienced clinical and support staff.
As Deputy Service Manager, you will be responsible for the provision of a high-quality service for, residential care and employee engagement, providing strong and effective leadership to the onsite team and for the overall day to day running and strategic direction of the service.

Who we are looking for?
An experienced, strong and compassionate Deputy Service Manager to lead our team in Shipley, Bradford. You must have strong and effective leadership skills and be committed to the values, passion, and determination to put people first, whilst supporting the lives of people with learning disabilities or mental health illnesses.
You will be providing guidance and act as a role model to your new team whilst providing the effective delivery of the service with a multi-disciplinary team with a positive culture of support care to our service user. Ultimately, you will meet our quality targets set out by the senior team, which will ensure your service is providing the best quality of care and support to our service users.
As a Deputy Service Manager not every day is the same, and it can be quite challenging at times, but the rewards are truly amazing to see our residents improving with the support we provide!
What qualifications or experience are needed for this role?
Previous leadership and management skills working in the social care sector, particularly in mental health and/or learning disability is an essential part of this role.
If you are a qualified Occupational Therapist or Registered Mental Health Nurse with experience in a supported living environment we'd love to hear from you. We also welcome applicants who are proven leaders and ideally, have achieved or are working towards their NVQ level 5 in Health and Social Care.

Where you’ll be working;
Merchants House in Bradford is a 24/7 supported living service for adults living with a mental health diagnosis, learning disability or autism.
Located in Shipley, Merchants House has been transformed into a spacious modern living space containing 25 self-contained 1-bedroom flats. This service also offers a shared kitchen and lounge area to promote social inclusion.
Located close to the centre of Shipley, there is easy access to shops, local amenities and public transport.
As with all of our services, the people we support benefit from ‘The Northern Healthcare model of supported living’, with 24/7 support onsite and clinical input from our multi-disciplinary team. Our Bradford mental health community team also provide a 24/7 outreach service supporting people within their own home.
The role is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. This role requires a level of flexibility as you will have the option to join the out-of-hours on-call rota, which can include evenings and weekends.

Your responsibilities as a Deputy Service Manager
- Ensuring that our service users are at the heart of everything we do.
- Working positively and collaboratively with other colleagues within the team
- Work within and implement our policy and procedure, including confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Have a sound understanding and experience of CQC requirements and clinical governance and the knowledge and skills to meet their requirements
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with all key stakeholders
- Commitment to the delivery of high-quality care
- Has a demonstrable belief in a values-led approach whilst working with service users
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the complex needs faced by service user
- Has excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ensure a ‘person-centred’ approach is at the forefront in everything we do.
- Have a ‘can do’ attitude with a hands approach with dedication and commitment
- Responsible for working towards and meeting the service targets and objectives
