Meet Lewis Hunt, Recruitment & Onboarding Co-ordinator
From first conversations to first days, Lewis helps people take the next step in their career with Northern Healthcare. We caught up with him to hear about his journey into recruitment, what motivates him and why finding the right people makes such a difference to the people we support.
Tell us a little about yourself and your career journey so far.
I studied Film Production at university, so I've always had a creative side and a passion for media. My career began in agency recruitment, where I discovered how much I enjoyed connecting with people and helping them find new opportunities. That experience eventually led me into in-house recruitment, where I could build stronger relationships and support candidates throughout their journey.
What attracted you to a career in recruitment, and what brought you to Northern Healthcare?
While I was at university, I booked guests for a podcast, which involved reaching out to people and building connections. That naturally introduced me to recruitment, and because I enjoyed speaking with people every day, it felt like a great fit.
After speaking with the Recruitment Manager about the role, I knew Northern Healthcare was somewhere I could continue developing my recruitment skills while making a meaningful difference by helping people find rewarding careers.
What excites you most about working in the mental health and supported living sector?
One of the biggest reasons I chose recruitment was because I wanted to help people, not just find a job, but find somewhere they can genuinely grow and succeed. Knowing that every new colleague we recruit has the potential to positively impact the lives of the people we support makes the role incredibly rewarding.
How can a great recruitment and onboarding experience make a difference to the people we support?
A great recruitment and onboarding experience starts with honesty and transparency. If a candidate is unsure about anything, it's my responsibility to make sure they have the answers and feel supported throughout the process.
Getting recruitment right is essential because it helps us attract the right people into our services. By giving new colleagues the support and information they need from day one, we're helping them succeed in their roles, which ultimately benefits the people we support.
What are your priorities as you settle into your new role?
My biggest priority is to listen and learn. Every service has its own way of working and its own recruitment needs, so it's important for me to understand the people, the processes and what makes each team unique. The better I understand our services, the better I can support them.
If a colleague wanted to get in touch with you, what could you help them with?
Recruitment is my main area of expertise, so I'm always happy to help with anything related to hiring or onboarding. I'm also quite tech-savvy and enjoy finding solutions to problems. Most importantly, I'm always happy to listen, whether someone needs advice, support or someone to chat to.
If you could swap jobs with anyone in the organisation for a day, who would it be and why?
I'd love to spend a day alongside one of our Support Workers. They're the people making a real difference every day, often in challenging situations. Seeing first-hand what their role involves would give me valuable insight into how recruitment can better support them and attract the right people into those positions.
What's one thing on your bucket list?
I've never seen the pyramids, so visiting Egypt is definitely on my bucket list. I'd love to experience them in person and finally tick that one off.
