A Journey of Career Growth at Kirk House

What is your role at Northern Healthcare?

“My new role at Northern Healthcare is Team Leader at Kirk House.

 I got into this by being open with my Service Manager about wanting to progress within the organisation, he has been incredibly supportive through this process.”

Congratulations on your recent promotion! How did you work towards this?

“I worked towards this by taking advice and learning from our previous Team Leaders who were always very willing to help the team learn new skills, as well as keeping up to date with all the training needed.”

What advice would you give to a colleague wanting to progress at NHC?

“I would advise speaking to your Service Manager and asking what Northern Healthcare has to offer and how you can show your interest.”

What attracted you to join Northern Healthcare?

“I was attracted to Kirk House as I knew a few of the staff members and heard wonderful things about the team and organisation.”

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

“I enjoy finding myself in new situations I have not yet been through and learning how to navigate these. Working alongside my team and learning new things about the people we support. I also enjoy the additional training I have received that has helped expand my knowledge of Northern Healthcare.”

What is the most challenging aspect of your current role?

“The hardest aspect of my new role is also one of my favourite things, finding myself in new situations I may not have been in before. Thankfully, I always have our Service Manager or Deputy Service Manager to rely on when needed.”

What makes Northern Healthcare special?

“Northern Healthcare stands out to me because of the friendly atmosphere you feel when you step into the service.”

Please let us know about a standout memory from your time at Northern Healthcare

“My standout memory would be my first day at Kirk House, I was warmly welcomed by all the people we support and felt very supported by all staff members.”

What would you say to someone thinking of joining Northern Healthcare?

“When starting with Northern Healthcare I had no previous experience in care and support, I would say it is worth taking that step to try something new as I now cannot imagine myself doing any other type of work.”

What is one piece of advice that you would give to someone joining Northern Healthcare?

“My one piece of advice to someone starting at Northern Healthcare is there is no such thing as a silly question.”

If you could swap roles with anyone else at Northern Healthcare, who would it be?

“If I could swap roles with anyone for the day it would be my Service Manager, to experience a day in his life.”

How do you spend your time outside of work?

“Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, trying to get outdoors as much as I can.”

What is one thing professionally, and one thing personally, that you would like to achieve in life?

“Professionally I would like to continue working towards progression within Northern Healthcare, my new short-term smart goal is to complete the ‘Future Leaders Program’ provided by Northern Healthcare. And personally, I would like to spend some time travelling in the future.”
